Korean Names That Mean Grace

Grace is one of the loveliest meanings a Korean name can carry, and there are several characters for it — ("grace, kindness"), ("favor, benevolence"), and ("elegance, refinement"). It is a theme that runs quietly through many of the most-loved names of all.

Part of what makes grace so popular is its breadth. It can mean kindness given and received, or it can mean grace in the sense of bearing — poise, refinement, an unforced elegance. Here are five, spanning both senses.

1. 은혜 — Eunhye

From 恩惠 — 은 ("grace") and 혜 ("favor") — literally "grace, a kindness received." It is the very word Koreans use for grace and blessing, which makes it about as direct as the theme gets. Warm, classic, and a little tender.

2. 혜은 — Hyeeun

The same two characters as above, flipped: 혜 (, "favor, benevolence") leading into 은 (, "grace"). Gracious and kind, with a slightly softer, more flowing sound than 은혜 — the same warmth, a gentler music.

3. 은 — Eun

The Hanja ("grace, kindness, a quiet favor") on its own. It is one of the most beloved syllables in all of Korean naming — the warm anchor inside names like Haeun, Eunseo, and Gaeun. A single character that quietly means goodwill.

4. 자혜 — Jahye

From 자 (, "compassion, loving-kindness") and 혜 (, "grace") — "compassionate grace." A gentle, slightly classical name about kindness that runs deep, the sort of grace that shows itself in how someone treats others.

5. 단아 — Dana

From 端雅 — "dignified and graceful." The word 단아하다 describes someone elegant and composed, so this name is grace in the sense of bearing: poise you can actually see. Often spelled Dana in English, which gives it an easy cross-border charm.

Kindness with poise

Grace names endure because they wish two good things at once: a kind heart and a calm, dignified way of carrying it. That blend — warmth plus poise — is exactly the impression names like 은혜 and 단아 leave. It is no accident that the grace syllable 恩 turns up in so many top names; parents reach for it again and again because it is gentle, timeless, and impossible to outgrow.

Because the grace syllable 恩 is so common, a grace name blends easily into almost any set of siblings, and it pairs especially well with themes of light and wisdom. If you want grace as elegance, reach for 雅 (as in 단아); if you want it as warmth and kindness, 恩 and 惠 are the gentle heart of it.

Grace names are about gentleness with dignity — kindness, favor, and a quiet, unforced elegance.
